Why did the diesel generator set suddenly stall?

A sudden shutdown of a diesel generator set during operation would severely and seriously affect the output efficiency of the unit, delaying the production process and causing huge economic losses. So what is the reason for a sudden stop of a diesel generator set?

1.When automatic shutdown occurs, the speed of operation gradually decreases, the sound of the diesel generator and the color of the exhaust smoke are not abnormal.

At this time, check the low-pressure fuel line by first checking the fuel tank, filter, tank switch, and fuel pump for blockage. Then inspect the fuel tank vault and check to see if the switch is open. After that, you should also check the air screw on the injection pump for tightness, then press the fuel pump button and see if the screw is leaking oil. If there is no oil leakage, it means that the oil line is blocked. If there are bubbles inside the leaking oil, this indicates that there is air in the oil and that the check should be done section by section.

2.When automatic shutdown occurs, operation is constantly unstable and an abnormal knocking sound is heard.

The other main cause is piston pin and crankshaft breakage in addition to broken or loose connecting rod bolt, valve spring and valve retainer and valve stem fall out or valve spring breakage. If this condition is detected, the diesel generator set should be stopped immediately for inspection to avoid major mechanical accidents and sent to professional service for a comprehensive inspection.

3.When the diesel generator shuts down automatically, the speed will slowly decrease with erratic operation along with white smoke from the exhaust pipe.

The other main cause is water in the diesel, a damaged cylinder gasket or automatic decompression. It is necessary to replace the cylinder gasket and adjust the decompression unit.

4.There were no deviations from the norm before the automatic shutdown

The main cause is jamming of the injector plunger or needle valve or breakage of the plunger spring or compression spring, or falling off of the connected pine of the injector pump and the manipulator rod. When the drive shaft bolt of the injector pump and active disc are loosened, the key on the shaft is sheared off, causing the drive shaft or active disc to slide and the drive shaft cannot operate the injector pump.

The above four points are several common causes of diesel generator set shutdown. The user should investigate according to the different situations and relevant causes as soon as possible in order to eliminate the cause of the fault to resume normal operation of the unit.
